Add To

Scandal begins with just one kiss. . .

Aurora Paxton was once the belle of the ball, the most sought-after debutante of the season―until a scandalous mistake ruined her. Shunned by her family, Rory was banished to the country to live in disgrace. Now she’s been summoned back to London by her stepmother, who is being blackmailed by the least likely person Rory can imagine: Lucas Vale, Marquess of Dashell.

Lucas is someone Rory’s known for years―a man as devastatingly handsome as he is coldly disapproving of her. What in the world could he want from her or her family? Rory intends to find out as soon as she comes face to face with her old foe. What she never expects, however, is that the icy aristocrat has a soft spot for her―and a secret plan to redeem her status. Could it be that Lucas has been in love with Rory all along. . .and has finally found a way to win her heart?

Our matchmaker,  Lady Clarissa Milford has found another young woman who needs the special slippers.
Miss Aurora Paxton was sent to the country in disgrace eight years ago.  Now she has been asked to help the very woman who sent her away.
Lucas Vale,  the Marquess of Dashell has a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders.  He desperately need a large infusion of funds.  The only way he can see through it is to marry an heiress.
Our heroine is a very intelligent lady with a mystery to solve.  Being back in London is going to bring many memories for her,  some better than others.
Our hero is trying to sort out his finances,  the last thing he needs is more trouble.
A marvellous historical romp.  Lots of fun and adventure for our characters and us.  It is part of a series relating to the shoes,  but each is a stand alone story.  I now need to go a find the others.  I loved every page.  A beautiful lighthearted read.

The Bride Who Got Lucky (The Cavensham Heiresses #2) by Janna MacGregor Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

He would do anything to protect her. Even marry her…

The son of a cold-hearted duke, Nicholas St. Mauer isn’t one to involve himself in society…or open his own heart to anyone. But driven by honor, the reclusive Earl of Somerton feels obliged to keep a watchful eye on Lady Emma Cavensham. She possesses a penchant for passions unbecoming a woman that finds Nick in constant peril of losing his well-structured solitude. She even dared kiss Nick once―an utterly unladylike, and delightful, lapse…

Emma can’t deny the appeal of the earl’s attention, and occasional affection, but she has no need for a man. There are worse fates than spinsterhood, as Emma knows too well. She still mourns the loss of her dear friend Lena, and is determined to prove Lena’s husband responsible for her death before he lures another innocent woman into a brutal marriage. But as Emma pursues her prey, a compromising moment upends all her plans. Now, with gossip swirling and her reputation in tatters, Nick may be the only man brave enough to join in Emma’s cause. . .and fight for her heart.

Nicholas St. Mauer,  the Earl of Somerton has worked very hard to make his own fortune.  The ton might look down on him for going into trade,  but it means everything to him to succeed.
Lady Emma Cavensham is desperately sad over the death of her best friend.  She blames herself for not protecting her.  She is determined never to marry and lose control over her life.
Both our hero and heroine have very strong ideas on what they expect from themselves and their lives.  Unfortunately for our heroine women of her time don't always get a choice.
This is quite an emotional story where you will be totally drawn in to the characters lives.  I expect there will be other stories to follow because the secondary characters we met are well worth hearing more from.
A thoroughly entertaining read.

Centuries ago, his ancestor fell in love with a woman cursed by a jealous witch. No one believed him until it was too late. Eric Fontalvo was determined to prove one thing... that a family curse didn't cause his father's death.

The plan was working until the day he found her...again. Suddenly his life changes forever, and he is forced to question everything he believes.

Moving into an old plantation house was just what Tandie Harrison needed to recover from tragedy. So she writes a book, a story based on a man in her dreams. There's only one problem though... the characters from her novel keep showing up on her doorstep.

And then she finds a diary written hundreds of years ago.

As if that isn't strange enough, she meets him...the man from her dream, someone who reawakens her psychic power along with something else from long ago.

Can Eric and Tandie's love destroy the force keeping them apart? Or will darkness win again?

Hacienda Moon is a new classic tale of two lovers crossing time. A seductive tale of one woman's journey to confront the demons of her past and to find the courage to face her future. It is a mesmerizing novel that explores the deepest depths of human nature, and the characters will hold and haunt you long after you have read the final chapter.

Hard Breaker (Gargoyles #6) by Christine Warren. Paranormal Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

From New York Times bestselling author Christine Warren comes the sixth book in her red-hot romance series in which even the most beastly gargoyle is able to win the heart of a beautiful human woman.

Ivy Beckett has a special gift. She can hear voices, feel events, and receive messages from great distances. Which is also a curse. The moment her family is killed by the servants of the Darkness, she knows it. And the only way to fight these evil forces is to align her powers with a Guardian. A legendary warrior of stone who strikes fear in her heart―and fire in her soul…

Baen is a fierce and powerful gargoyle who has sworn to protect all humans from the Darkness. But when this mighty winged warrior swoops down to rescue Ivy from the jaws of death, he is drawn into a battle that is more dangerous―and more intimate―than he ever bargained for. The beautiful, gifted Ivy touches something deep within him, an all-consuming passion that puts both their lives at risk. Can he conquer the armies of evil itself . . . without losing the woman he loves?

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Ivy has a strange magical gift,  she hears things.  Unfortunately by the time she hears them it's too late to stop them happening.  So as far as she is concerned it's a useless gift.  Never more so than when she hears her uncle and cousin being killed in England when she is in the USA.  That doesn't stop her from going and trying to complete their work.
Baen is a gargoyle guardian who has been woken from hundreds of years sleep to find a battle going on.  That's exactly what he's built for.  When he finds out the sorry state of affairs the Guild and the Wardens have to deal with, he knows it's time to summon his brothers.
This is the climax to a series.  Unfortunately I haven't read the other books, but I still loved this one.  The author's mad sense of humour makes what could be ordinary paranormal into such a fun read.  There is danger, magic, sex and laughs galore.  Our heroine thought she knew what she was getting into.  She didn't know the half of it.  Our hero is a typical Alpha male who needs to learn about modern females.
I loved every page.

Born and raised in coastal New England, Christine Warren lived in the South and the Mid-Atlantic before hopping to the other side of the country to take up the life of a transplant in the Pacific Northwest. She completely bypassed those states in the middle due to her landlocking phobia. Hmm, need to research a scientific term for that...

When not scrambling frantically to complete her latest writing project, Christine spends most of her time as a crazy animal lady, hanging out with her dog Levi (he’s the one with the hair) and pretending to train him to have some manners. She also hangs out with her horse, Cal—a thoroughbred with a craving for strawberry licorice twists—her goddog, Merlin; and her best friend, fellow author Hannah Murray. In addition to playing with her pets, Christine’s hobbies include identifying dog breeds from photos of their underbellies, appreciating fine and not-so-fine wines, shopping for the perfect pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, and most of all reading things someone else had to agonize over.

The Right Kind of Rogue (Playful Brides #8) by Valerie Bowman. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Can two star-crossed lovers come together―until death do they part?

Viscount Hart Highgate has decided to put his rakish ways behind him and finally get married. He may adore a good brandy or a high-speed carriage race, but he takes his duties as heir to the earldom seriously. Now all he has to do is find the right kind of woman to be his bride―ideally, one who’s also well-connected and well-funded. . .

Meg Timmons has loved Hart, the brother of her best friend, ever since she was an awkward, blushing schoolgirl. If only she had a large dowry―or anything to her name at all. Instead, she’s from a family that’s been locked in a bitter feud with Hart’s for years. And now she’s approaching her third London season, Meg’s chances with him are slim to none. Unless a surprise encounter on a deep, dark night could be enough to spark a rebellious romance. . .for all time?

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Miss Margaret Timmons has been in love with her best friend's brother since she was sixteen.  The problem is the difference in their social standing and the fact that their parents are mortal enemies.
Her father has gambled away the family fortune and her mother is a very bitter woman who takes out her frustration on everyone around her.
Viscount Hart Highgate has decided to give in to parental pressure and find a bride.  Someone he can put up with long enough to get an heir and still carry on with his life.  His father has drummed it in to him to never give his heart because women will just trample it.
Our heroine has a friend that is known to be a matchmaker,  perhaps she can help.  Or perhaps she will mess everything up.
This is a very emotional story with as many tears as laughs.  You will want to smack our hero several times for being pig headed.
You can quite easily read it on its own, but it will tease you with the previous stories from the series.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and the previous books.  I'm not sure if there will be more from this series but I will always look for more from this author.
